Despite big lead, Sanders predicts close race in New Hampshire
The analysis was made at a time when Ms Clinton has been under scrutiny for her ties to Wall Street, which has been a major focus of Vermont senator Bernie Sanders on the campaign trail. As the Republican candidates prepare for a debate this weekend, the Democrats had a heated debate Thursday night, their last before the New Hampshire primary.
Clinton said the attacks in Libya that killed four Americans happened under a “fog of war” and people on the ground had worked hard to understand what was happening as the attacks unfolded.
“He and I agree on virtually every issue”, said 21-year-old William Robinson, who spent his winter break volunteering for Sanders.
Aides acknowledge that the openness and new message likely won’t close the gap in New Hampshire, a state they have all but admitted they’ll lose.
“What being part of the establishment is, is in the last quarter, having a super PAC that raised $15 million from Wall Street, that throughout one’s life raised a whole lot of money from the drug companies and other special interests”, Sanders commented, to Clinton’s objections. Sanders’ plan is an attempt to implement heavy-handed policies that would change relatively little: They would just drain power from traditional banks and concentrate it in the lesser-regulated corners of the financial system known as the shadow banking industry.
New Hampshire was the setting of Clinton’s upset victory against then-Illinois Sen.
“Now, of course I still hope to persuade those who are supporting Senator Sanders to give me another look”, she continued, “but I want you to know that I am truly glad that you re involved in this process and in the Democratic party”. “You are bringing energy, ideas, and urgency to our shared causes”. She also wanted to know why Clinton felt compelled to delete so many personal emails from her private account as secretary of state – “everybody knows you can’t write 30,000 emails to your yoga instructor”.
“There’s a much greater burden on women running for political office”, Clinton said in response. Earlier in the week, she said that she simply couldn’t imagine not campaigning in the state.
Clinton said embassies across the Middle East and South Asia were being attacked because of a movie deemed offensive to Islam, and she was relying on intelligence she was receiving. But to rebut questions about trust, Clinton turned to people who have both worked with Sanders and endorsed her. The same was true of 16 percent of Clinton’s supporters in the poll.
