Despite Injury, Bolt Listed on Jamaican Olympic Team
Hublot’s bold 45mm Big Bang Unico Usain Bolt chronograph in yellow gold is a limited edition of just 100 watches (£31,600).
Since the 2012 Olympics, Bolt has won world championship gold medals in the 100 and 200 meters and 4×100-meter relay at the ’13 and ’15 world championships.
Bolt sustained the injury during the first round of the 100m event in Kingston and went on to pull out after winning his semi-final.
Bolt will learn on Thursday if he has been selected by Jamaica to run in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m in Rio.
Despite his absence at the trials, many within in the track community fully expected Bolt to be in Rio when the festivities got underway. The policy says athletes must compete at the trials to be considered for the team but those ill or hurt for the event are given a chance to prove competitive fitness later and be considered for selection.
In the United States, athletes are required to race at Trials and finish in the top three to qualify for the Olympics.
The 100m and 200m world record holder travelled to France this week to meet up with the Germany squad at Euro 2016 in a bid to speed up his rehabilitation. He also missed the 200m final.
Leading Jamaican women’s 400m hurdler Janieve Russell and world 200m silver-medal victor Elaine Thompson have also been selected by the committee as one of four submissions for their respective events.
Russell missed the trials after an injury in training, while Thompson, the women’s 100m victor, did not run the 200m after complaining of a sore hamstring.
