Despite tough loss in Nevada, experts say Bernie Sanders still in race
Hillary Clinton admitted she has work to do to convince voters she has their best interests at heart, even as she celebrated her weekend win over rival Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders in Nevada.
The results offered a glimpse of her strength with black voters.
The Republican candidates are gone and the Democrats are next to win SC. For one thing, they point to a major new poll suggesting that Sanders would do better than Clinton against Republican candidates Donald Trump or Ted Cruz in the general election.
Despite citing progress with Latinos in Nevada, Sanders’ advisers are clear-eyed about the challenges on Super Tuesday.
“I have to say that I am delighted that Secretary Clinton, month after month after month, seems to be adopting more and more of the positions that we have advocated”. So we think, Chuck, we have come a very, very long way.
Nelsen told News 13 Clinton has more than double Sanders’ support from the African-American community. “We did badly with the African-American vote”, Sanders said.
But Clinton isn’t taking her base for granted.
“We hear you. We see you”.
Under the proportional system, avoiding overwhelming losses that can dramatically shift the delegate totals is nearly as important as outright victories.
Sanders’ supporters are alleging that foul play by casino managers helped Clinton out in Saturday’s contest, while Clinton’s camp has blasted – in at times vulgar terms – the Vermont senator’s assertion he took the state’s Latino vote.
“I know that’s not sexy, but I think that’s how the Clinton campaign has structured their campaign this time after some of the lessons from eight years ago”.
Neither Clinton nor Sanders’ campaigns immediately responded to requests for comment on the allegations. But among young voters?
In the two states Sanders lost – Iowa and New Hampshire – young voters turned out much less versus their share of the population (as of the most recent Census estimates) than in New Hampshire. Clinton led in all but two states – MA and Sanders’ home state of Vermont.
So, I know that I have to, you know, make my case. That lead is inside the survey’s 4.2 percent margin of error.
Actress Angela Bassett vouched for Clinton at South Carolina State and nearby Claflin University while fellow entertainer Vivica A. Fox spoke at Voorhees College in Denmark, S.C., and at Denmark Technical College. “For that, she and her team deserve a huge amount of credit”.
Beyond Super Tuesday, Clinton and Sanders are looking ahead to the March 15 contests in Florida, Illinois, Missouri and Ohio.
The Nurses on the Bus, staffed by the members of National Nurses United, drove by Allen, Benedict, and South Carolina State, on behalf of Sanders.
Clinton has received the support of many Democrats in the state – all three of the state’s Democratic representatives have endorsed Clinton, as well as state House Democratic leader Larry Hall, who spoke at the opening of her headquarters.
