Destiny expansion coming this year; full sequel 2017
It’s good to know there will be a three year gap between the first game and the sequel as longer development time usually means it will have more content. Activision said today that Destiny now has over 25 million registered users who have logged 3 billion hours playing the game.
The last large expansion Destiny received was The Taken King, which launched on September 15, 2015.
Activision have revealed their financial results, and not surprisingly have done well. Now, Bungie finally acknowledged that Destiny will actually receive some substantial content before next year. Whatever the big new expansion is, it will have to be sizable enough that gamers feel as if this will be a substantial step in keeping them entertained until 2017 rolls around. More importantly, I’m okay with that because Bungie has told fans exactly what they’re working on.
It is now unknown what either the sequel or the Destiny expansion will entail. It’s a fine balancing act between making something fun and different and making something accessible and entertaining.
Just when you wrote off a Destiny sequel as a unicorn we’ll never see, Activision and Bungie went ahead and announced that the next chapter is coming in 2017.
