Detroit defense stifles normally prolific Saints, 28-13
Since retiring from our Detroit Lions you seem to have kept yourself extremely busy, heck, you even starred on a reality television show.
The Detroit Lions moved the ball at will against the New Orleans Saints in posting a critical 28-13 victory on Sunday.
This much is clear, the Saints remain two games behind both NFC South co-leaders-the (7-5) Atlanta Falcons and the (7-5) Tampa Bay Buccaneers-and because the Saints are scheduled to play both teams before season’s end; the Saints still contain legitimate playoff aspirations. Detroit is seeking its first division title since 1993.
The odds it calculated for each of the Lions’ games this season varied widely.
TJ Jones spent last week working his typical job on the practice squad, acting as a scout team receiver and trying to give the Detroit Lions defense as good a look as he can emulating the New Orleans Saints’ wideouts.
Stafford said he sensed the Saints were about to blitz, adding, “We had a different play call and I checked to one I thought would be good”. “He can generate some points, particularly at home”. They intercepted Drew Brees three times in the win over New Orleans. New Orleans settled for a field goal.
The Saints did not beat the Lions, though.
After a catchless Week 12, Brandin Cooks saw a team-high nine targets, tied for the most he’s seen in a game this year, and caught seven of those for 73 yards.
Detroit’s stingy defense has held four straight teams to 19 or fewer points, including keeping New Orleans more than 17 points below its scoring average.
“It was just one of those weeks where things were clicking along pretty well for us”, Caldwell said Monday.
“We would have had momentum from the get-go”, said Moore.
“I’m just talking about he’s on his way to really having a prolific career”, Caldwell explained. “I turned into a running back and scored”.
Drops by two Saints players in the first half could have altered the course of the game. We didn’t convert the first two 3rd and ones, and then the next time we got the ball was mid way through the second quarter.
“I kind of took my eyes off it to look up to see what was happening and mishandled it”, he said.
The blame should be exclusively on head coach Sean Payton. “We had trouble staying on the field”.
We hope all is going well for you. “We came in all week and our focus was clearly on the New Orleans Saints”.
Brees salvaged another 300-yard passing day on a meaningless drive in the final seconds.
If watching the Lions’ game against the Jaguars was the probabilistic equivalent of watching the season finale of Westworld, watching Sunday night’s game against the Saints was like watching a run-of-the-mill episode of NCIS. After rolling up 555 yards and 49 points on the Los Angeles Rams last week, the Saints put up just 369 yards and one TD. He made two plays in the third quarter to cut off WR Andre Roberts’ route, but otherwise was flagged twice for coverage penalties and ended the game with five catches allowed for 97 yards.
It wasn’t almost enough. The Saints ran just 57 plays.
Matt Prater’s been money for the Lions. New Orleans settled for another field goal.
However, there is one thing Payton said in his presser that rings true. “It’s an agent picking up a phone and calling (a reporter).”.
Watching Golden Tate race untouched to the end zone brought up all sorts of emotions. In fact, this reporter commented on how much fun they’d been to watch this season in an article earlier in the week.
