Detroit Dog Owner Charged In Fatal Mauling Of 4-Year-Old Boy
The owner of several dogs who fatally mauled a 4-year-old Detroit boy has been charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter, prosecutors said on Monday.
We get calls every day at our office about injuries caused by dogs with unsafe owners, attorney Mark Bernstein said.
The dogs attacked the pair and dragged the child under a fence and into Lyons’ backyard, where the boy was found lying on his back with “massive wounds”, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Three of the dogs were killed by the police officer’s shots while a fourth was quarantined and later euthanized.
Lyons was expected to be arraigned on the charges later Monday in Wayne County District Court, prosecutors said.
A Detroit mother is mourning the loss of her son after a vicious pit bull attack on Wednesday, The Detroit Free Press reports. Neighbors previously told the Free Press they’d seen the dogs outside before as well.
The child’s mother said she tried to shield her child from the dogs by falling on top of him but to no avail.
Lyons sued the state of Texas in an attempt to recoup the money seized from his vehicle, but he lost the case, according to Texas court records. No lawyer who could speak on his behalf was listed yet. The 4-year-old Detroit boy who was mauled to death by pit bulls.
Meanwhile, Xavier’s parents have filed a civil lawsuit against Lyons and the property manager, which alleges that Lucille was permanently injured trying to save her son’s life. “It is a gross understatement to say that this case is harrowing example of irresponsible pet ownership”. An autopsy carried out yesterday shows Xavier died of multiple puncture wounds to his body, with the coroner ruling out the possibility of the death being natural causes.
