Detroit Lions – Calvin Johnson closes in on another milestone
Calvin Johnson has turned catching touchdowns into something of a holiday tradition. “We’re going to enjoy this one today and the guys can spend a little time with their families and then we have to get back to work tomorrow”.
“I have confidence in the players in that locker room”.
But even in the wake of the latest embarrassment, a Thanksgiving Day blowout courtesy of the Lions, Kelly has no plans on bolting. They have played the Patriots to some tight games this season, for what that is worth.
We’ll get a better feel for how good the Eagles can be after those games. Calvin Johnson caught three TD passes and the Lions’ running backs had eight receptions for 131 yards.
Ansah finished with 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
The Lions haven’t lost since a front-office shakeup after getting blown by Kansas City in London. But just to put together a solid year fundamentally from when I’m watching film, whether it’s seeing the ball better or in and out of routes better, just those things you can’t lax on them, ” he said. “Football is a bit simpler than that”, Detroit coach Jim Caldwell said.
By the end, it got so bad that Detroit fans, who haven’t had much to cheer for, either, this season, began the wave – while they had the ball. “That’s what you’re seeing now”. 45-14 loss for the Philadelphia Eagles at Ford Field and the way it was done had looked remote till the match began and Lion started devouring their opponents.
Mark Sanchez started in place of Sam Bradford, who was inactive with a shoulder injury.
“I don’t think they’re trying to prove a point or anything”, he said.
Kelly cited the lack of a pass rush for the flurry of points they’ve allowed. “You add them up when you’re done, and right now, we’re anxious about Aaron Rodgers and anxious about all the other things that we’ve got to face, (Mike) Daniels, (Clay) Matthews and that whole group of guys”.
“All of us got into the hole, all of us will get out of the hole”. The Lions led 24-7 at halftime.
Another player who is also being praised for his impressive performance is Matthew Stafford who tied a career-high with five touchdowns passes. Riddick had a 23-yard catch earlier in the drive.
The Lions played well defensively across the board, with the Eagles not scoring their second touchdown until the score was 48-7. The Eagles were six-of-14 on third down conversions.
He threw five touchdowns and no interceptions vs. Philadelphia, the first time that’s ever happened in franchise history.
The infamously humble and soft-spoken Johnson isn’t obsessed with statistics or records, to have him tell it. And if his 1,964-yard record is broken one day (perhaps even by Brown or Jones this year), he’ll only continue the timeless cycle that he’s been a part of.
Taking advantage of Johnson in one-on-one coverage, Stafford threw 4- and 3-yard TD passes to Johnson in the third quarter. Lions S Glove Quin left the game with an injured left ankle, which he was protecting with a walking boot…. Carroll is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, which may have made Thursday’s loss his final appearance in an Eagles uniform.
