Detroit Lions, DeAndre Levy comply with Four-year deal
With Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner recently redefining the market for middle linebackers in the National Football League, guys like Lavonte David, Luke Kuechly and DeAndre Levy, who are all in the final year of their deals have a new baseline for what to expect in negotiations.
“No, the first thing I’ll probably do is get two solid gold dog dishes for my dog”, Levy said.
“He’s a heck of a football player, just a playmaker on our defense vs. the run and the pass”, Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said Tuesday as the sides were working toward an agreement.
A third-round pick by the Lions out of Wisconsin back in 2009, Levy has developed into one of the best 4-3 outside linebackers in the NFL. “And he has shown throughout his career with us that he is deserving of not only the contract that he received today but of the status of being part of that nucleus”. Suh ended up leaving via free agency this past off-season. He stated that when the figures are launched, Tampa Bay’s in all probability will earn a richer deal than he did. Levy all the time has felt snug with the Lions and with the defensive scheme underneath coordinator Teryl Austin.
These are the identical teammates who know they will profit from having him round for the longer term.
But Levy insisted the money didn’t matter so much, and the Lions were happy to keep him around a year after losing the previous face of their defense – Ndamukong Suh.
“He’s been begging for them”, Levy joked.
