Detroit Lions’ Golden Tate: ‘Our opponents know our plays’
Be more aggressive in ways to use the skills your players have to their best capabilities.
Yet somehow, their offensive line isn’t even their biggest problem.
Right now, though, opposing defenses look more at ease against the Lions than the Lions do facing them.
There were a few whispers around the organization that Detroit might be tipping plays to its opponents.
“Penalties hurt us. I had turnovers that hurt us”, Stafford said.
But that was nothing compared to the bombshell Golden Tate dropped in his weekly interview with 105.1 FM in Detroit on Tuesday afternoon. I’ve had a couple occasions in literally each game where they’ve called out our play, for one, and then afterwards been like, ‘Hey, we knew what you guys were doing’. I know that they have got off to a slow start this year, but he hangs in there and keeps battling.
“All three weeks, a player has come up to me and said ‘we knew what you’re going to do, ‘” Tate said.
ALLEN PARK If you think the Lions are beaten down by defeat, you are just wrong.
Sending Johnson downfield could force coverage to go with him, opening up potential single coverage for the Lions’ other playmakers – Golden Tate, Ameer Abdullah and Eric Ebron on shorter or deep routes.
Yet that’s exactly what happened in Sunday’s loss to Denver. He also said he would not be taking play-calling duties from Lombardi.
“Once I saw the running back chip before his release, I knew what was coming”, Bruton told reporters on Monday, according to MileHighSports.com.
Yes, unlike in college, there is only so much that can be done in an National Football League offense and players do so much film study they should have an idea of what is coming. It’s no wonder rushers are flying in unblocked at an alarming rate.
The Lions rank 27th in total offense, last in rushing offense and are averaging just 14 points over their last two games.
This is the most damning indictment yet of Joe Lombardi. He took one of the most dynamic run games in history and turned it into one of the worst in the league two years running, despite a huge influx of talent. “So he’s definitely growing into it, all the tackles new to the scheme are doing a great job understanding what we need out of them. we’re growing together, we’ve just got to do it a lot quicker”. They could maintain the status quo, but the last 20 games offer no assurances that better days are ahead.
“One of the things that’s important is we get the ball to guys so they can do something with it, ” Caldwell said.
For Lions fans, it must feel like the other team knows what plays the team’s going to run in advance.
That is bad, like really bad. After such zingers as having a guard run a route in the red zone, Lombardi has continued to make questionable play calling decisions.
