Detroit motorist tries to kill spider with lighter, causes gas pump fire
He then did something that most people understand is obviously not smart. The man filling his vehicle up didn’t like the spider crawling around near his fill cap. But after being questioned by investigators, he admitted that he saw a spider and tried to set it on fire with his lighter, USA Today reported.
A man was refueling his auto at a Michigan gas station when he noticed a spider on his gas tank. “All of a sudden I look out and I see flames”.
According to Fox, the pump was completely destroyed, but-somewhat miraculously-the man and his auto were barely any worse for wear.
The flames were out by the time the fire department arrived on the scene and no one was injured.
Firefighters were called to tackle the blaze but the motorist had already managed to contain the flames with a fire extinguisher, police said.
The incredible footage was caught on the station’s CCTV cameras.
Apparently the man’s auto also received minimal damage. He said he didn’t know.
He pulled out his lighter to burn the spider, because he was scared of it, he said.
He apologized saying he’s deathly afraid of spiders. “It is just one of those things that happens – stupidity”.
