Dev: Assassin’s Creed 2016 Release Canceled, Egypt In 2017 Only?
The “Assassin’s Creed” games have become synonymous with sometimes-wonky controls and the not-quite-finished vibe that games that become annualized begin to acquire over the years. You may screencap this and refer to it when nothing is shown in E3 2016.
Reports of Assassin’s Creed skipping 2016 come from the most untrustworthy of places, 4chan. “You’ll have to wait until 2017 for it”. But font of all knowledge – and uber-accurate Kotaku scribe – Jason Schreier has followed up with his own sources, stating that the next game is codenamed Empires and is set in Egypt. Just when he was getting back on Ubisoft‘s Christmas card list, too. It’s made by the Black Flag team. You may leave any question you want answered.
On top of that, rumours of some kind of Assassin’s Creed collection hit the web late past year when Ubisoft registered a domain. Critics of the series argue that this relentless release schedule is resulting in franchise fatigue and rushed games, the biggest example of which being Unity’s disastrous launch. It’s hoped that this slight delay will help to increase the amount of polish needed to win back gamers that were possibly tainted by the franchise in 2014, despite the relatively smooth launch of last year’s Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate. This’ll mean each game will have three years of development time, as Ubisoft already alternate development studios for the series each year.
Frankly, this is what Ubisoft needs.
The reports have sprung up from Kotaku, which previously leaked the existence of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate before it saw the light of day. There has also been a huge lack of narrative cohesion, especially with the Desmond Miles story having ended.
Every fall for the past six years, Ubisoft has released at least one big new Assassin’s Creed game. Let us know in the comments section below!
