DHS Says Current IDs Can Be Used Until 2018
States without compliant identification cardswill have until January 22, 2018, to either have the required ID card or an extension from the federal government showing the state has made adequate progress toward coming into compliance with the law.
Technically, the government can’t force states to comply with Real ID – issuing driver’s licenses is purely a state matter.
