Diamondbacks Trade Veteran Infielder Pennington
Iit wouldn’t be true baseball life, though, if there wasn’t a little bad news sprinkled in.
This being said, it is now unknown who Arizona will receive from Toronto in return for Pennington. “I think that’s what we’re all going for, the wild card is cool but we want to win that division”. Devon Travis, the starting second baseman when healthy, is on the disabled list for the second time this season with a shoulder injury.
He remains at the club’s complex in Dunedin, Florida, undergoing treatment.
The Arizona Diamondbacks traded utility player Cliff Pennington to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for infielder Dawel Lugo, the club announced Saturday.
Pennington can play shortstop and second base and has a reputation for good defensive range.
The 31-year-old Pennington can play the two middle infield positions and third base. SB Nation’s Chris Cotillo was first to report the deal, followed by Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith. Pennington hit. 237 with 15 runs scored and three stolen bases in 72 games with the D-backs this season.
After Monday’s off day, Drew Hutchison will get the start in Tuesday’s series opener, followed by Mark Buehrle on Wednesday and R.A. Dickey on Thursday.
Unfortunately for Travis, that rehab appears to be side tracked; Jays manager John Gibbons said prior to the Jays-Yankees game Saturday that Travis has not been healing as quickly as hoped.
