Diana Douglas, 1st wife of Kirk Douglas, dies at 92
Much like her first husband and son Michael, Diana was an actress herself. She also had a recurring role on the soap opera “Days of Our Lives” as Martha Evans from 1977 to 1982, and appeared in an episode of “The Streets of San Francisco“, the detective series starring Michael Douglas and Karl Malden that launched her son’s career.
Sad news-actress Diana Douglas, mother of 70-year-old actor Michael Douglas, had died at age 92. She was 92.
The star passed away on Saturday (July 4) from cancer in Woodlands Hills, California. Ten years later, she exchanged vows with Donald Webster, a former Treasury chief of staff under President Richard Nixon.
Diana and Michael’s dad Kirk met when they were acting students at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. Her first contract was with Warner Brothers and was worth $200-a-week. She returned to New York to do stage and television and became a Powers Agency model, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
In May 1943, she appeared on the cover of Life magazine, modelling spring fashions.
Diana also is survived by her and Kirk’s son, Joel Douglas, a 68-year-old producer, and grandchildren Cameron Douglas, 36, as well as Dylan Michael Douglas, 14, and Carys Zeta Douglas, Michael’s children with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, 45.
“We had brought to marriage such different concepts of what it constituted, what was expected due”, she wrote in her autobiography, In The Wings And Beyond.
The two remained on amicable terms.
Diana and Kirk reunited to play spouses in the 2003 film It Runs in the Family, co-starring Michael and their grandson Cameron.
After a divorce from Kirk in 1951, Webster married actor in 1956 and then upon her second husband’s death.
