Dickson County schools clear up flag controversy
The hosts of Fox & Friends asserted over the weekend that the Confederate flag was being banned in schools because liberals “hate expressions of patriotism”.
A Tennessee school district has managed to institute one of the strangest rules with the narrowest scope you’ll ever see, banning all flags on the back of pickup trucks on school grounds. “We are very proud to have Junior Reserve Officers Training Course in both of our high schools, and we will continue to fly and respect the flag”, the announcement read.
The story was picked up by national media and taken out of context. “We’ve also probably gotten 50 to 75 calls that have made it past the switch board and people that have not been satisfied with talking with people on the switch board”, Weeks explained.
The statement stands in stark contrast to students who told WBHQ they were told they’d be kicked out of school if they brought an American flag anywhere on school property.
According the Carlson, the fact that school systems around the country weren’t banning the rainbow flag was evidence that elites were trying to “crush everyone else”.
It’s the day of a big football game between in town rivals in Dickson County, but in the school parking lot, the only banner flying has been on the flag pole. “Our policy is about protecting an instructional learning environment”, Weeks said.
Officials believed there was a right and wrong way to show patriotism and school pride.
“It’s not an unpatriotic act, by any means, because we have a number of ways in which students do learn how to be patriotic and express American pride”, said Dickson County Director of Student Services Steve Sorrells in a video from a local news station as the American flag hung behind him.
Did students misunderstand, or is the school caving to pressure?
“Not just the Confederate flag, but the American flag“, he continued.
