Did Ole Miss just help get Les Miles fired?
The LSU Tigers take on the Ole Miss Rebels today in a game on the college football schedule which sees both SEC teams nationally ranked and eyeing major bowl berths, but each paradoxically coming off a loss to the same conference rival due to a bye week.
LSU plays Texas A&M on Saturday night.
While Ole Miss will look to get the ball to their top running back, the Tigers will surely put the ball in LSU star running back Leonard Fournette’s hands Saturday afternoon.
“If there’s an incident that’s taking place in the stadium and officers are responding, we can quickly find that location on the camera and follow the officers in, and then it’s on video”, said Chief Tim Potts, University police department. “So, what I’ve always done is a strength and a weakness”. I’m disappointed because I have coaches and players that work very hard.
“I think we have a mobile quarterback”.
“If I don’t, you’ll all be writing a bunch of other stuff”.
What the win means for Ole Miss: For one thing, this keeps the Rebels (8-3, 5-2 SEC) alive in the SEC West race.
LSU showed life early in the second half, kicking a 43-yard field goal on its first possession and forcing a fumble on the ensuing kickoff.
The Tigers have also been prone to the big play, and they are 14 – dead last – in the league in red zone defense.
Ole Miss controlled the first half, pushing out to a 24-0 lead late in the second quarter on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Kelly to Laquon Treadwell. The junior college transfer, who is the nephew of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Kelly, has thrown for 3,224 yards, 23 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this season.
“We gained back confidence”, Hilton said.
Ole Miss marched 82 yards for a score as Kelly hit open targets, and he ran into the end zone from 11 yards to make it 31-17.
But it turns out that there’s no “could be” about it: Les Miles is on the hot seat, and winning out to end the season might not even help him, if LSU Board of Supervisors member Ronald Anderson is to be believed. That is the key. The dismissal rumors have dominated LSU headlines over the last two weeks and will continue to do so for the next month, if not longer. The defense did just that as they held the Heisman hopeful to 108 rushing yards on 25 carries.
“Our guys bought into loading up on the run”.
The report also said Miles met with LSU officials the week before the Ole Miss game to discuss his job status. “It worked out the way it needed to”. The Rebels couldn’t contain Razorbacks quarterback Brandon Allen, who threw six touchdown passes.
“I honestly do not”, Miles said when asked after the game if he felt his job was in danger. Here we are with two weeks left, and if I understand this correctly, we are one of two teams that have a shot of making it (SEC Championship). “It’s a pretty simple execution”.
