Did Vladimir Putin Just Trick Himself Into Solving Syria’s War?
The USA, along with France that had become part of Washington’s wars in Libya, Yemen, Syria are now in the midst of meetings with Russian Federation and Syria to finalise a plan of action against Daesh that claims to have its headquarters in the Syrian city of Raqqa.
Britain’s former military chief, Gen. David Richards, echoed that sentiment, saying in a BBC interview that a cease-fire in Syria could allow Assad and his military to take a leading role in battling IS.
And so it appears Russia’s president has yet again proven, as Forbes so elegantly put it, that he’s “one of the few men in the world powerful enough to do what he wants – and get away with it”.
President Putin has now also created a stir by confirming reports being carried by the “alternative” media in the world, including The Citizen, of the funding and support given by governments to create and nurture Daesh.
He told Italian state television that if Syria’s people want presidential elections “there will be no red line” against holding them.
“While the self-declared Islamic State… has grabbed headlines with its exhibitionist violence, the Syrian government has systematically violated every global law aimed at protecting civilians”, the group wrote.
UNITED NATIONS Hundreds of innocent people have been killed in spectacular attacks claimed by Islamic State militants from Syria, but diplomats say major powers are no closer to a peace deal to end almost five years of bloodshed and chaos there.
The USA and other Western countries that have supported rebel fighters have long insisted Assad must go, while Syrian allies Russian Federation and Iran have opposed those calls.
“Putin: “[Russian air strikes in Syria] must be strengthened in such a way that the criminals understand that retribution is inescapable.
“Assad is called a magnet, which attracts all terrorists”.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius said he was surprised by the letter, which he said did not reflect a common view of European Union member states and made no reference to European Union sanctions against Russian Federation over its annexation of Crimea and the destabilization of eastern Ukraine.
“Article 51 [of UN Charter] is the right of self-defense for any country when its citizens are attacked”, he explained. “And I am confident that in this situation it is absolutely necessary to approve a resolution of the Security Council that would fix a need to act in accordance with Chapter Seven and do all to crash Islamic State, the way we acted in respect to terrorist attacks of September 11 2001”, Lavrov continued. Russian Federation is an American adversary but also a victim of terrorism.
“We continue our efforts not only to search for ways out of the Syrian crisis, which is a primary concern”.
“Our Western partners realised the lack of prospects for the approach that many of them had taken”, Russia’s top diplomat said, referring to the insistence in the West that Assad should immediately step down.
