Diego Costa and Oscar like bulls in Chelsea training clash – Guus Hiddink
Scunthorpe manager Mark Robins says his players are buzzing going into their clash with FA Cup opponents Chelsea.
However, Hiddink has stated that the pair were quick to apologise and the incident was laughed off.
Hiddink downplayed the scale of the confrontation, which came during an “intense” training session.
“He got Diego. Then they stumbled over the ground, stood up as a normal reaction and then chested a bit without any further threat of punching or whatever”. But what I would say is that we would have to play beyond our wildest dreams and they would have to have an off day.
“Oscar apologised in front of the group”. I said, ‘Take the podium.’ He apologised for his over-reacting and then they looked at each other and they started laughing. “Jokes have been made (about the incident) after”.
“Diego looks the bigger bull – with all love to them both – but Oscar might be a very fast, sneaky bull to make punches”, he said.
Loftus-Cheek swept home the victor after replacing Oscar at half-time, to leave Hiddink impressed.
Hiddink did not wish to compare Oscar’s performances in recent weeks with those under his predecessor, though. They are adding now some things.
“I want to be careful with him that he doesn’t start too early”.
The former Manchester United striker said: “You never know”. I gave him rest to recover but we will see what happens.
“Right now I’m happy to play anywhere – right-back, left-back, wherever!” said Loftus-Cheek, when asked his preferred midfield role.
Hiddink memorably ended his first spell as Chelsea’s interim boss by winning the 2009 FA Cup final against Everton and then flouting Wembley regulations by smoking a victorious cigar as the post-match celebrations began in the dressing room.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek has branded the FA Cup “a competition we’ve got to win” as Chelsea fight to save their season.
“Fourth place in the Premier League is hard”.
“If you see the impact of the FA Cup not just in England but worldwide it’s a huge tradition”.
Chelsea beat Scunthorpe 3-1 in the FA Cup third round 11 years ago but the Dutchman is taking nothing for granted.
“Every game’s important, but the FA Cup is definitely important for us this year”.
Chelsea were without the injured Eden Hazard, while other big names to miss out included Nemanja Matic, who was not involved, with Thibaut Courtois and John Terry remaining on the substitutes’ bench.
Chelsea have only one fit striker in Costa, with Radamel Falcao (groin) and Loic Remy (calf) absent.
“I don’t want him to fall again with muscle problems”, said Hiddink. “Please. This is not done at a big club – or any club'”.
“Ruben came in and he had a handsome goal, not just in the execution but the way he prepared himself, and that was good to see”, said Hiddink.
