Diego Costa banned for Manchester United’s game against Chelsea
Chelsea sacked Jose Mourinho and placed Guus Hiddink in temporary charge till the end of the season but the fans have blamed the players more than the manager of failing the team. Costa scored both of their goals in their draw with Watford.
“It’s a setback because (Costa’s) now increasing his performance”, Hiddink said. I could complain a lot and a lot and a lot, but that’s not my nature. “I am so proud of what I have achieved and I still want to keep going”.
Saturday’s defeat by the Potters placed Van Gaal under yet more pressure following United’s Champions League exit at the hands of Wolsburg earlier in December.
“It’s Manchester United we are playing for, it’s a special club and it’s a privilege to play”.
“I think this crowd is very loyal and also we must not deny what has happened recently”, he said.
Hiddink did, however, express sympathy for the difficulties facing Memphis Depay, the young Holland forward signed by United for £23 million from PSV Eindhoven during the close season. “Those guys, they need a bit the cover of experienced players”.
The Dutchman was pleased with the resilience shown as his team came from behind, but rued a missed penalty from Oscar with 10 minutes remaining.
“It’s a pity and a setback”.
“But the team reacted as they did and that’s why we can be confident they have shown what they are obliged to – they have been very professional”.
“But the two goals conceded were unlucky, a penalty and a deflection”. “We played well in the second half”.
“It’s not by surprise because they are well organised, have skilful players and then you can be beaten by them”.
But a week later, Hiddink believes the players have gone some way to winning back the crowd in the second match.
But Chelsea kept pushing to get back into the game, and Watford’s lead was short-lived.
“It was a hard game but I am happy we got a point out of here because coming to Stamford Bridge and taking a point is very good”, said Ighalo, speaking to Hornets PlayerHD.
Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien claims that the Blues’ 2-2 home draw with Watford on Boxing Day was unlucky. “I text him, I phone him and say, ‘I did this today… this is going through my mind… how should I do it?'”He knows what to say and what not to say. and that’s what I like about him”.
“We were lacking some attacking players and had to adapt”.
“Chelsea were unlucky with the result but there’s always room for improvement”.
