Digvijaya Singh ties knot with Amrita Rai

Digvijaya Singh, who is a Congress general secretary and a former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, had confirmed in April previous year his relationship with Rai. Speaking exclusively to India Today over phone, Digvijaya Singh said he is now in United States and will make an official announcement about his marriage once he returns.

Amid the photo chapter, Digvijaya tweeted, “I have no hesitation in accepting my relationship with Amrita Rai”.

Singh and Amrita tied the knot last month in Chennai.

Singh’s wife Asha passed away past year after prolonged illness. Last one and a half years have been particularly stressful and traumatic.

Earlier 68-year-old Digvijay had confirmed his relationship with 44-year-old Amrita.

Amrita alleged that she was a victim of cybercrime and wrote that she was “treated like a criminal”. She also said people abused her in worst language for no fault of her at all.

“After which I have made a decision to marry with Digvijay Singh”, Amrita has said in tweet. “I only want to embark on this new journey with him, working towards a dignified, professional career” through her Facebook page. “The constitutional and legal framework of India give me power to take decisions which affect my life”, Rai added. I and Digvijaya Singh have married in the formal and dignified ceremony which took place as per the Hindu rites.

Her romantic pictures, which were widely circulated on the internet, were often shared with captions that termed her a “gold-digger” or judged him for marrying “his daughter” due to the age gap between them.
