Dilwale beats Bajirao Mastani in first round

Claiming that Dilwale had a whooping box office return in the last week, with the film topping in Bengal territory, the actor asked, “Why stopping a film meant to spread happiness”.

Both films were released on Thursday, December 17, in the Middle East and Friday, December 18, worldwide.

Bollywood’s battle of the year has happened, with Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani hitting screens over this past weekend. However, a closer look reveals both the movies lost a part of their business due to the same-day launch.

Bajirao Mastani won a total of 9 awards including Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Sound Design, Best Costume Design, Best Dialogue, Best Choreography, Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Actor in Leading Role. As the movie features youngsters Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon benefitted the movie to earn an additional Rs. 56 crore overseas.

The collections though are less compared to Shahrukh’s previous films “Happy New Year” and “Chennai Express”.

However, in West Asia, overseas exhibitors were bullish on Eros International’s Bajirao Mastani which was released in 850+ screens, said Nahta.

Interestingly, the Monday business of “Bajirao Mastani” in India is more than “Dilwale”, which is directed by Rohit Shetty. “No doubt about that!!” Thus with the addition of these three figures, the film managed to score a decent figure over the box office. Johar said in his Tweet.
