Diner owner, under social media fire, defends yelling at 2-year-old to stop
As we’ve written about a few times on this blog now, Marcy’s Diner owner Darla Neugebauer made national news after snapping at the toddler crying in her restaurant – and her colorful reactions on Facebook and to the media afterward. Carson later left a message on the diner’s Facebook page about her experience, which prompted Neugebauer to post a profanity-filled response.
“Good for you!!!” wrote a user named Jill Brown, who gave the restaurant a 5-star rating.
Carson went on to call Neugebauer an “absolute lunatic”, “deranged”, and “not suitable to run a business”.
Neugebauer told WCSH the child’s parents ordered three pancakes and then didn’t feed them to the girl, causing the child to cry loudly.
‘If it bothered you so much you should have spoken to me and not traumatized my child by screaming in her face. & p*ss off my staff & my patrons!’ she wrote. She should not have thrown things or yelled or cursed.
It is hard to say who won the latest round of a continuing parenting debate, but by Tuesday, Marcy’s Diner had netted an average rating of 3.6 stars out of 5 and more than 9,000 reviews on Facebook, with new posts arriving nearly by the second.
Neugebauer on Wednesday said she was unaware of Carson’s online piece, but earlier in the day the restaurant posted the daily specials, along with a healthy side of fresh invective.
Others concur with the support, saying;’Whenever I visit your state I’m making sure I have breakfast/lunch there! When the parents instead decided to remain inside and ignore their screaming child, Neugebauer slammed her hand on the counter and shouted, “This needs to stop”. I might have used poor judgment, ‘ she said in an interview with KVUE, ‘but I wouldn’t say I was sorry, because it stopped. She should not have thrown things or yelled or cursed.
