Dion’s husband’s final wish
Celine Dion is returning to Vegas this week after putting her regular show on hold for two years to take care of her husband Rene Angelil during his struggle with throat cancer. “I understand. Talk to me about it.’ “& René states to me, ‘I would like to die in your arms.’ OK, high-quality, I will be there, you will die in my arms”. “But they say they don’t know”.
The 47-year-old singer told the newspaper in an interview published Monday that Angelil is back in Las Vegas after undergoing procedures in Boston and has been on a feeding tube for two years. Dion, who also has a new song out this month, has had many conversations with Angélil about what he wants the end of his life, including his funeral, to look like. Recalling their dialog, she stated: “I’ll say, ‘You’re scared?” “There will be moments”.
As for how her husband is doing now, she shared, “Rene today is feeling good because I am here, because I am talking, because I am alive”, she said. “But that’s the point of coming back – otherwise, I just release an album”.
Dion was just 12 when she met Angelil, 73, who soon became her manager and then husband in 1994.
In spite of the massive heartache that comes with seeing the love of her life die, Dion is trying to power forward and return to the stage – she said it’s what Angelil wants of her. “Rene wants to know”, she told USA Today. I got it. I’m here. They have three children together; Rene-Charles, 14 and twins Nelson and Eddy, 4. She said she wants to show her husband that she can be strong for him. It’s unclear whether her husband will attend or watch from a live feed at their home.
He recently told his wife about his final wish. “Afterwards, sure. But not yet”.
