Disney Announces Jack and the Beanstalk Animated Movie ‘Gigantic’
When Disney takes on a fairy tale, its version tends to become the definitive version: Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, etc. At the D23 Expo, the company announced it is now working on what it hopes will be the definitive version of Jack and the Beanstalk, called huge. “When John Lasseter asked us where are we going to set this film, we started looking around the world at different areas and countries, and we landed on Spain”.
Greno shared that one of the main giants – the co-lead of the film along with Jack – is based on a young girl that the creative team met on a research trip to Spain.
Those in the room also got to hear a bit of the first song from enormous, as sung live by Lopez and Anderson-Lopez.
The last three Toy Story films have been nothing if not emotional roller coasters.
Big is set to hit theaters in 2018.
Walt Disney Animation Studios has been toying around with a Jack and the Beanstalk movie for years. Indeed, big focuses on the adventure of an 11-year-old giant girl named Inma and a tiny lad known as Jack, as they go on a quest in the land of giants in the sky.
“You have to look at the original story, the iconic imagery, and then you have to mix in some twists and turns”, said director Nathan Greno (Tangled) at Disney’s D23 fan expo in Anaheim, California on Friday. But he doesn’t account for her super-sized personality.
