Disney Announces New Jack and the Beanstalk Movie
Disney is already in production on the feature, which has assembled a top-notch team: Nathan Greno (Tangled) is directing, Dorothy McKim (Get a Horse!) is directing, and Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (Frozen) are providing music. More details on the Disney enormous movie after the jump. It’s set in Spain during the Age of Discovery, and Jack, a grown adult explorer, will make the greatest discovery of all time: a whole world of giants. “When Ima meets Jack, she thinks he’s a toy!” Lopez and Anderson-Lopez also spoke about about their contributions to the film, including a song where an 11-year-old giant plays with the (relatively) tiny Jack like a doll with a refrain of, “I Love You, Little Man”. Greno said the feisty character was inspired by an actual young girl they met while visiting Spain, who tossed a soccer ball over their heads, raced their rental vehicle, and declared that “she was the princess of her people”.
“You have to look at the original story, the iconic imagery, and then you have to mix in some twists and turns”, said director Nathan Greno (Tangled) at Disney’s D23 fan expo in Anaheim, California on Friday.
/Film’s Peter Sciretta described the moment as “not magical, but fun” – not quite on the level of Idina Menzel’s performance of “Let It Go” at D23 in a previous year. Pixar and Disney Animation’s John Lasseter made the announcement during a presentation covering the studio’s upcoming slate of animated films.
Enormous hits theaters in 2018. Jack agrees to help the 60-footer find her way home. This is a world of giants.
