Disney confirms location of Star Wars Resort with new details
In terms of acting performances, I thought both Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo) and Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian) did a fantastic job and really felt like their characters.
Fast forward 3 years, Han has been expelled from the academy and encounters Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson) and his small band of criminals, Beckett is posing as an Imperial Officer and has Han arrested and thrown into the pit where he encounters Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo), with Han able to speak Chewbacca’s language, the pair devise a plan to escape the pit and leave with Beckett and his crew. The set-pieces are thrilling – especially a high-flying train heist sequence early on. Its hotshot directing duo, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (the same helmsmen behind Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street), departed under dodgy circumstances due to irreconcilable creative differences that they had been having with the executives overseeing the project at Disney. The fact that “Solo” was such a fun adventure for the whole two-plus hours while belonging more towards the western genre than space-fantasy bodes well for the future of the galaxy far, far away.
In the first big box office test of Hollywood’s high-stakes summer season, Solo: A Star Wars Story collected about $103.3 million between Friday and Monday, a huge total for any franchise film – unless that franchise is Star Wars, which has always performed at stratospheric levels. I was wholly entertained. “This is a film that I do not think a majority of “Star Wars” fans really wanted”. Another issue I originally had was, there’s too many action scenes, however, I feel like maybe because it was so dark and I was distracted by the action scenes, no matter if there were too many or not, it just sort of set the tone. Since we know Han ends up with Leia, I kept waiting for her to die. We see Han when he still exudes the vulnerability that youth provides, but the same snarky wit and lofty sense of self. He has no idea how soon he will be meeting her.
So what will it cost to stay at Disney World’s Star Wars hotel? The apparel collaboration will include a hoodie and baseball jacket, along with hyperspace imagery and Solo’s famous “Never tell me the odds” quote. He looks nothing like Harrison Ford, stands a foot shorter, and lacks the vocal timber. Glover is permanently charming and, as the notorious pilot/trader/card sharp, he revels in Billy Dee Williamsing it up – “Everything you’ve heard about me is true”. He was great as the host of Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago, and his music video for “This is America” has people talking.
When all is said and done, I look back and realize that it was the ideal movie for people who just love going to the movies. That’s the setup for “Solo”, in which we learn how Han became a star-ship pilot. Beckett is one of many dubious characters whom Solo meets.
Solo: A Star Wars Story is showing at the Sonoma 9 Cinemas. Solo at last knows how to have fun. I don’t consider any of them “Marvel” movies. Is there one thing that you need to enjoy it? Sometimes their objective is to have fun, and Solo strikes that chord with vigor. But for the first time since Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012 for $4.05 billion, the profit potential within George Lucas’ space saga no longer appears limitless.
