Disney conjures up Prince Charming film
The studio has bought an untitled script by Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son writer Matt Fogel which is being kept quiet for now, but is, according to The Hollywood Reporter, along similar reinterpretative lines to the likes of Maleficent and, to a lesser extent, this year’s Cinderella.
Disney pioneered the recent and lucrative trend of taking either old animated classics or fairy tales and spinning them into live-action features. Described as a revisionist retelling, Prince Charming is a live-action comedy told from the perspective of the prince’s brother, who’s always struggled to live up to the family name. Cinema Blend explored the many possibilities of the plot: from the probability of having many Prince Charming to one Casanova sweeping every princess of her feet.
The studio has had great luck with live-action fairy tale movies.
Walt Disney Studios is adding another live-action film adaptation to its growing list of possible future projects, this time following the story of Prince Charming.
Prince Charming is apparently ready for his close-up. ‘Beauty and the Beast’ has been fixed for March 17, 2017. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are set to produce along with Tripp Vinson.
Prince Charming stars in classics such as Cinderella, Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs and Sleeping Beauty.
Fogel is best known for his work with Phil Lord and Chris Miller on Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. He was also responsible for the most recent draft of Disney’s “Bob: The Musical“, with Tom Cruise as a top contender for the lead role.
