I want the little girl in Pakistan or the transgender kid to see the movie and see something in themselves.
Meanwhile, The 13th, her documentary examining the history of the prison system and racial inequality in the USA, will debut later this month at the New York Film Festival and is slated for an October 7 limited release.
This announcement is just the latest instance of “Wrinkle” pushing the envelope: The $100-million budget DuVernay is working with is the most a female director of color has ever had at her disposal. Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling were cast as Mrs.
The plot surrounds a Meg, a young girl who, along with her classmate and her brother, travels through the galaxy on the hunt for her father after he goes missing whilst experimenting with time travel. Which, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Whatsit, they kids travel through space and time, and get into all sorts of insane, Centaur-filled adventures.
With these four actresses taking part in the film adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time, it looks like this movie has the potential to be even better than one might expect. Who will be portrayed by Mindy Kaling. Now it will be brought to an entirely new audience as it finds its way onto the big screen.
Reid made her film debut in the Oscar-winning “12 Years a Slave” starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender and Benedict Cumberbatch.
The casting of Storm Reid highlights Disney’s ever-growing efforts to add more race diversity to its movie casts. “They were like, ‘Yup, good, O.K. So what do you need?'” Disney has had massive success, of late, casting unknown young performers.
