Disney’s ‘Descendants’: Behind-the-Scenes With Dove Cameron & the
The Friday premiere of the Disney Channel original movie Descendants captured 6.6 million viewers, according to early Nielsen numbers, making it the most-watched cable TV movie of the year.
The film explores the offspring of some of the most notorious Disney characters.
Mind you, Gary Marsh – the President and Chief Creative Officer of Disney Channels Worldwide – had to go to the Big Cheese himself (i.e., Bob Iger, Chairman & CEO of The Walt Disney Company) before production could then begin on Descendants. “Only time will tell if these evil teens follow in the footsteps of their wicked parents!” Missing from the recent photo, however, were stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. Disney Villains have kids too. Meet their children, respectively: Mal (Dove Cameron), Evie (Sofia Carson), Jay (Booboo Stewart), and Carlos (Cameron Boyce).
Disney’s “Descendants” takes place in a present-day idyllic kingdom, where the benevolent teenaged son of the King and Queen (Beast and Belle from Disney’s iconic Beauty and the Beast) is poised to take the throne. From Maleficent to Cruella de Vil to the Evil Queen and Jafar, Disney’s villains have not only been scoundrels, it seems they’ve also been pretty awful neighbors. “What defines her is her reflection in a mirror”.
If so, if you might relate most strongly to Jay, the son of Jafar. “Being her mother’s daughter, she was raised to believe that all she needs in life, her goal should be to find Prince Charming”, Carson explains. It’s going to be fun for the entire family.
Cameron says they were able to create their own backstories to their characters. Or, as is more likely the case, they were told to look shocked and they complied, because one does not get to be a Bachelorwithout learning to be compliant.
Though sore and exhausted, the actor isn’t complaining: Not only did his series recently make its debut, but he can also be seen – dancing again – in the Disney Channel original movie Descendants.
