Disney to roll out seasonal pricing on one-day park tickets
Multi-day tickets at Walt Disney World will not be part of the tiered pricing, but will raise in price.
Going to Disneyland or Disney California Adventure will cost $95 to $119 for an adult beginning Sunday depending on the day – as the two parks go to demand-based pricing.
For the first time, tickets to Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California will cost more during holidays and some weekends – up to 20 percent more – than during slower periods, as the bursting-at-the-seams parks seek to spread out demand.
And there are 83 peak days that fall on spring break, some summer weekends, and almost all of December.
Starting Sunday, tickets to Disneyland and Disney World will be offered at three different rates: value, regular and peak days, according to a post on the Disney Parks blog.
On days that attendance is expected to lower, park visitors would pay less for a one-day ticket during the value period, KTLA reported.
Disney theme parks are adopting surge pricing similar to fare increases imposed by airlines and ride-hailing services, the Los Angeles Times reported. The new seasonal pricing plan will create three pricing tiers for one-day theme park tickets: value, regular, and peak days. But for most days of the year, expect to spend more for a daily ticket. “Value” tickets, for Mondays through Thursdays during weeks when most schools are in session, will drop to $95.
Earlier this month, Universal Studios Hollywood adopted a dynamic discount system for one-day tickets bought in advance via the park’s website. Domestic attendance climbed 10 percent to a record, Disney said.
The park has grappled with how to manage throngs of crowds, especially since the popularity of franchises such as “Frozen” and “Star Wars”.
“In addition to expanding our parks, we are adopting seasonal pricing on our one-day ticket to help better spread visitation throughout the year”, a statement from the company said.
