Disney World to End Long-Running Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights
It opened in 1995 as the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights and became one of the most popular attractions during the park’s holiday season.
It appears that because of that, a rich family tradition will come to an end as The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights will have their final show this year. The lights don’t really have a place at Magic Kingdom since Disney already does the Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party there for every holiday season, and they wouldn’t work at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
As we mentioned before, the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights has been a staple at the park for the last twenty years. Below is a great history of the Osborne Lights that we posted in 2012.
As most of you know by now, Disney plans to expand on their Star Wars interactions at the park by creating a Star Wars Land. They have not confirmed exactly which, if either, of these new lands will take over the Streets of America, where the lights have been displayed for many years. The true story of the lights are that Jennings Osborne, an Arkansas businessman, designed a the display at his home, but it grew too large for a private display, so Disney brought the lights to the Disney-MGM Studios in 1995. The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights will begin on November 6, 2015 and conclude on January 3, 2016.
Disney officials read the news accounts of the court case and offered to move the display to Hollywood Studios in Orlando.
