Divers find body of man missing in Brampton lake
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said in a tweet Sunday that the body of the man was found in 25 feet of water.
Brumfield was fishing with a friend Saturday evening when he fell in.
Peel Regional Police say a man in his early twenties didn’t resurface after deciding to go swimming at Professor’s Lake with a friend around 8:30 last night.
The man’s companion told rescuers that he heard a splash at the back of the boat, tried to help pull his buddy back into the boat, and got pulled into the water.
The friend called 911 after he was unable to rescue the man himself, say police.
Neither man was wearing a life vest. That search team eventually left and the rescue dive team from the Sheriff’s Department took over.
According to witnesses, the man fell into the water and disappeared with two other men attempting to save him. It’s possible, police said, that the victim then wound up in deep water due to the lake’s steep dropoff.
