Divers Search Lake For California Shooters’ Computer Hard Drive

A lake in California has been searched by police investigating last week’s shooting rampage that left 14 people dead.

Marquez, who checked himself into a mental-health facility in Southern California just after the shooting but has since left, had worked as a front-door security guard of a Wal-Mart in Corona, Calif., in the months prior to the attack.

Seccombe Lake is not far from the Inland Regional Center, where last Wednesday two assailants opened fire during a holiday party.

Federal Bureau of Investigation divers have been involved in the operation two miles from the scene of the massacre in San Bernardino.

One source said the government now has little, if any, evidence that Malik or her husband, Syed Farook, 28, had any direct contact with Islamic State, which has captured control of large parts of Syria and Iraq.

Investigators try to find out if Farook’s path towards extremism predated 2013 and whether or not it led to plans to launch an assault in 2012, in response to two individuals acquainted with the investigation who weren’t approved to debate the matter publicly and spoke on situation of anonymity.

San Bernardino shooter Tashfeen Malik tried to join Islamic extremist groups in the months before the massacre only to get the cold shoulder, according to law enforcement sources.

On Thursday, members of Congress were briefed on the shootings and the ongoing investigation.

“Everyone’s asking the same questions about how it is that law enforcement didn’t know, or intelligence officials didn’t know, that they could have flown under the radar and nothing gave an indication that they were a threat”, said Jim Langevin, a member of the House Homeland Security Committee. Officials say it’s possible the husband and wife did everything, from becoming radicalized to planning and executing the attack, on their own.

But U.S. government sources have said there was no evidence that the Islamic State even knew of the couple before the killings.

“She was more than our sister”, Velasco’s sister, Erica Porteous, 37, said. “He said that he was thinking about becoming a Buddhist”. “It seems that there was not any proof that might have been discoverable throughout an interview for a visa”. They say the investigation will likely last a couple days.

Multiple lawmakers raised the fact that neighbors saw suspicious activities but failed to mention them to investigators until after the attack.

After a closed-door briefing on the investigation Thursday, U.S. Representative Matt Salmon, an Arizona Republican, denounced the State Department review of Malik.

Asked repeatedly whether any hints could have led law enforcement to prevent the attack, Sen. None of them knew she was going to be at the Inland Regional Center that morning. Meantime, new revelations from officials and public records show a much deeper connection between Farook and the man who purchased the weapons used in the mass shooting, 24-year-old Enrique Marquez.

Marquez hasn’t been charged with a crime and has been cooperating with authorities.

The timing of the rifle purchases is significant to FBI investigators.

Armida Chacon, Marquez’s mother, told reporters outside her home Thursday that she didn’t know “how this happened”.
