DJI Osmo 4K Handheld Camera Delivers Cinema-Quality Stabilization

The new Osmo camera boasts the inclusion of DJI’s three-axis gimbal stabilization technology. Actually, the Osmo is a bit more than that: With a built-in swiveling 4K camera and sophisticated stabilization, it’s an all-purpose tool for people who want cinematic imagery but don’t want to spring for a serious DSLR or camcorder.

Unlike conventional selfie sticks, the DJI Osmo can only be used with the company’s proprietary app. The 4K recording on the camera is flawless, making it the best selfie taking device on the market.

“The DJI system comes with a 12-megapixel camera (with 1/2.3” sensor and a 94 degree field of view) but you can also use it with the Zenmuse camera series.

In connection with the launch of the new DJI Osmo camera, Frank Wang – the founder and CEO of DJI – said: “DJI consistently refines the way cameras move in space – whether they are in the air or on the ground”.

Intelligent controls built into the handle make changing between shooting angles, capturing photos or recording video effortless.

DJI has programmed in several smart-shooting modes, such as the Panorama mode, where you can take a picture, and the camera will then automatically pan around 360°, taking and stitching overlapping photos to create a panorama.

Osmo’s handle has an integrated 3.5mm jack for those times when you prefer higher-quality audio recorded with an external microphone. The Osmo can also be decked out with further optional accessories such as a tripod, bike mount, extension arm and others, all of which are sold separately. “The Osmo moves the experience of hand-held film-making from capturing what happened, to sharing expressive, smooth video that shows what an experience was like”, Pan continued. It is available for pre-order on the DJI website and will begin shipping on 15 October.

If the handle sounds appealing, but you already have a Zenmuse X3, a Zenmuse X5 Pro or a Zenmuse X5 Raw, DJI says you’ll be able to buy the handle on its own, but hasn’t provided a standalone price as yet. Combine with the Tripod for added height.
