Djokovic beats Robredo easily in first match in 3 weeks
Novak Djokovic hammered Tommy Robredo 6-1, 6-2 at the Dubai Tennis Championships for the 699th win of his career.
But Djokovic boasts a 100 per cent record against Lopez – seven wins in seven – and who would back against the sport’s dominant player at the moment? Against Robredo, he didn’t face a break point.
In the second set, the Serbian was fully in control and broke twice to ensure his win and a passage into the quarter-finals. Of course I’ll be very pleased if it happens here. “But I am still highly motivated to reach more”, said 1.88 meter tall Djokovic who is coached by former Slovak elite player Marion Vajda and German tennis legend Boris Becker. “My game, the power I have from the backhand, the baseline, and the forehand, makes me feel like I have a game I can trust to beat him”.
“Solid match and performance”, Djokovic said. “I think it was necessary for me to just cool off a little bit and do something else”.
Bautista Agut, who has won two titles already this season, will next face Marcos Baghdatis after the popular Cypriot defeated Canadian Vasek Pospisil 6-4, 6-2.
He also stands astride the rankings like a colossus: He leads No2 Andy Murray by nearly 8,000 points, has headed the competition for 78 straight weeks-the longest stretch since Federer’s 237 straight weeks in 2004 to 2008-and with a total of 187 weeks, he is at No5 on the all-time list for most weeks at No1, behind Federer (302), Pete Sampras (286), Lendl (270), and Jimmy Connors (268).
“I know winning 11 grand slams people start talking about the all-time greats and coming closer to them but, again, I still would like to follow the same approach which I have now which is focusing on the present and the next tournament ahead”. Very few things went wrong.
“He’s very fit, and he plays very well throughout the entire year”, Djokovic said, reports Sports360. “He’s playing his best tennis now, and he’s beating everyone”. The match will be played not before 19:00 hours local time on Centre Court.
South Korea’s rising player Chung Hyeon made a winning Dubai debut, beating Andreas Seppi 6-3, 6-4 a day after the Italian turned 32.
