Djokovic denies Federer to reach Open decider
Novak Djokovic called it the best he has ever played against old foe Roger Federer.
Djokovic looked to have a straight set victory in hand after a thoroughly dominant first set in which he won in 22 minutes. In a show of dominance, Djokovic won nearly twice as many points as Federer (52 to 27) and did not face a break point.
Djokovic came back strongly after making 100 unforced errors against Frenchman Gilles Simon in the fourth round to down number seven seed Kei Nishikori 6-3 6-2 6-4 in the quarter-finals.
Djokovic then powered away to claim a commanding two-sets-to-love lead, tallying a total of 12 winners, after Federer posted just 11 through two sets.
In a tense fourth set, Djokovic broke Federer in the eighth game and served out the match to love in two hours and 19 minutes.
But Djokovic, the clear No. 1, now holds a 23-22 lead over Federer and, for the first time, a career lead overall of his principal rivals: Federer, Murray, Rafael Nadal and Stan Wawrinka.

Djokovic was firing on all cylinders leaving Federer to wonder what, if anything he could do, just to win games.
“I played unbelievably in the first two sets but I needed to because Roger has been playing unbelievably and I knew he would be aggressive”, Djokovic said.
“I think today was more (about) my game”.
Unfortunately, both Kohli and Laxman were left disappointed after Djokovic sent Fedex packing 6-1, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to enter his sixth Australian Open final and fifth successive Grand Slam final.
Federer has reached three grand slam finals since he lifted the Wimbledon title in 2012 but title number 18 has so far proved elusive.
Williams is the overwhelming favourite in the final, and not just based on recent form.
“It’s part of the reason why I guess I’m still playing”, Federer said.
