DNC chair won’t speak at Dem convention following WikiLeaks fallout
Debbie Wasserman Schultz, whose stewardship of the DNC has been under fire through most of the presidential primary process, will not have a major speaking role in an effort “to keep the peace” in the party, a Democrat familiar with the decision said.
And there’s a doozy or two among them, such as Wasserman Schultz demanding NBC’s Chuck Todd put an end to negative coverage of her, Daily Caller reported.
In an email sent out later that day, Wasserman Schultz wrote to DNC communications director Luis Miranda, calling Brzezinski’s remarks “the LAST straw”. Please call Phil a Griffin.
Miranda responded noting that Wasserman Schultz “already went to Chuck”, a reference to MSNBC’s Chuck Todd, moderator of “Meet the Press”.
“Chuck, this must stop”, reads the subject line of the email.
Behind the scenes, Todd and Miranda also corresponded, the emails show, with Miranda imploring Todd to ask the Morning Joe team to “at minimum… consider the facts on some the key allegations they’re making”.
“Not necessarily. If Mika just doesn’t like her, I’m not sure it’s worth either of their time”. Let me know if there is anyone I need to speak with directly. She included the link to the report on Brzezinski’s segment and wrote, “I would like to discuss this with you today”. “And I know a lot of people would say you can’t say that about a woman, because of course a woman doesn’t shout. We figure it can’t get worse, so worth having a call”, he advised.
Wasserman Schultz in her email was referring to Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver, who during a CNN appearance had said the Nevada state party hadn’t been fair.
“At this point, why would I do that?”
She added, “I’ve been talking to Phil about this since our breakfast”. Not sure why I should trust having a conversation with her would make any difference.
“Spoken like someone who has never been a member of the Democratic Party and has no understanding of what we do”, she wrote in an internal email about the Independent Vermont senator.
But the emails could reopen a long simmering feud between the DNC and the Sanders campaign, which claimed for months that the party and Wasserman Schultz were biased in favor of the Clinton campaign throughout the primary.
Reich wrote on a Facebook post Saturday that the alleged emails “clearly show the DNC tried to sandbag Bernie’s campaign”.
“Does he believe in a God”. The DNC chair even complained to MSNBC’s president.
