DNC’s Debbie Wasserman Schultz: “Thrilled” Republican Debate Drowning Out Talk
If Democratic presidential candidates Bernie Sanders, Martin O’Malley, Jim Webb, Lawrence Lessig, and Lincoln Chafee wish to debate each other this month or next, they should just do it (“Democrats irate over debate limits: State party leaders view DNC restriction as ‘dictatorship, ‘ ” Metro, September 12). They’ve had two debates, the Democrats have not had any debates yet. “But I don’t know that we’re going to have more debates”, Pelosi said.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz refuses to change her stance on the number of debates for the Democratic presidential candidates.
Doernberg said his group wanted to meet Chairwoman Wasserman Schultz to give her petitions signed by 23,000 Democratic activists demanding more debates.
“We’re having six debates – period”, Wasserman Schultz said at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast in Washington, according to Bloomberg.
Clinton also called the Republican debate on Wednesday night “silly season”, criticizing the lack of substance in the debates.
Only four of those debates are scheduled to take place before the first caucus and primaries, and under an unprecedented rule, candidates are practically banned from participating in any debates not sanctioned by the DNC. During the 2008 Democratic primary, candidates participated in 26 sanctioned debates, which many, especially the DNC, have argued is too many.
“Every time you have a debate there’s about 3, 4, 5 days where the entire operation has to come off the trail, get ready – responsible campaigns anyway”, Wasserman Schultz told The Daily Caller.
“Hillary does well, I think they all do well on them, and we should have more debates”, Pelosi told the Los Angeles Times. So, I made a judgment call and I sought input from people who have been involved in developing the schedule in the past and this was the decision that we all thought was best.
“His only opportunity really is to increase the debates and try to make an impact on a highly publicized stage, which he hasn’t really been able to do, and hope that Clinton and Sanders and whoever else will falter and he can capitalize on that”, Rouse said.
