“Doctor Strange” spins magic at re-energized box office
Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange dominated the domestic box office this weekend, earning an estimated $85 million from 3,882 theaters, an average of $21,893.
I thoroughly enjoyed this and think we’ll see more of odd in the Marvel Universe as a whole.
And at this pace, the movie will mark the biggest opening outside of Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy for the first instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe title, beating the first Thor, Captain America and Ant-Man. The three openers did what we haven’t seen since August – they combined for an opening weekend over $140 million.
Doctor Strange Topped $133 Million As Of Thursday From International Markets. It revolves around an extremely happy Troll named Poppy (Kendrick), who teams up with the grumpy Branch (Timberlake) to rescue her friends from invaders. And it’s already receiving heavy awards season buzz.
Also coming on strong is Mel Gibson’s “Hacksaw Ridge”, taking the third-place spot with an opening weekend gross of $14.75 million, which was also higher than expected.
The US$40 million was financed independently before Lionsgate picked up US rights.
“Doctor Strange” starring Benedict Cumberbatch enjoyed a strong opening weekend to win the box office. Indeed, it still enjoys a lofty 90% and a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Likewise, “Doctor Strange” successfully established a memorable antagonist whereas usual foes of other heroes are one-and-done. But Warner Bros. still has a potential monster hit in its back pocket with the adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”.
After a brutal vehicle accident leaves him unable to use his hands properly, odd goes on a journey to discover a way to heal himself and reclaim his status as a surgeon.
Doctor Strange is directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister) and stars Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tilda Swonton, Benedict Wong and Mads Mikkelsen.

It’s no surprise that Doctor Strange landed at number one, banking $84 million. “It started with a $12.0 million Friday, peaked at $17.7 million on Saturday and declined modestly on Sunday to $14.2 million”. Through October, no film opened to more than $30 million, as mainstream choices failed to reach blockbuster status.
Perry also managed to beat out “Inferno” again, which brought in only $6.3 million in weekend two to take fifth place.
