Dodgers increase number of quality prospects with trade

I know it’s gonna be a little different.

Not sure how well Reds fans are taking this, considering the fact that Frazier was their hometown hero.

Like Peraza, Schebler made his big-league debut for the Dodgers this season, playing 19 games and hitting three home runs in 40 plate appearances.

The Chicago White Sox have acquired All-Star 3B Todd Frazier of the Cincinnati Reds in a three-team deal that also includes the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Along with getting “a standup guy and a leader” when the Sox acquired Frazier, Ventura said he also thinks they are getting a player who, at age 29, is in his prime. Obviously, the White Sox are interested in competing in the AL Central, and they feel they need to rebuild their infield to do it. They’ve already acquired Brett Lawrie from the Oakland Athletics, and he will shift over to second base with Frazier in tow. Third base was a dearth of production for them past year, so this trade not only solidifies the offense, but the defense as well.

One more note to New Jersey: Frazier becomes a free agent in 2018.

As for the Dodgers’ haul, Montas, 22, was originally signed by the Red Sox out of the Dominican Republic back in 2009 but was dealt to the White Sox in July of 2013 as part of the three-way trade that landed Avisail Garcia in Chicago, Jake Peavy in Boston, and Jose Iglesias in Detroit.

The White Sox surrendered three prospects in this deal. Peraza, a second baseman, arriving in Cincinnati would seem to signal the end of Brandon Phillips’ stint in Great American Ballpark, but that will take some work as Phillips would have to waive his 10/5 rights. They surrendered three players that had cups of coffee with the team, but none of them were cornerstone players.

The big-budget Dodgers haven’t made an extraordinary splash this winter, but President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman believes this deal bolsters his roster while putting Los Angeles in position to make bigger moves. They can all do something at the big league level to help you win games. “Given the limitations of their market and their budget, they’ll never really spend enough to contend with the best teams in the National League, and with Frazier, Votto and the collection of young pitching they have developed, they’ll probably never be so bad that they’ll pick near the beginning of the draft”.

Thompson, the younger brother of Warriors star Klay Thompson, hit a solid.295/.363/.533 with five home runs for the White Sox past year and will provide the ability to play all over the outfield. At Triple-A Oklahoma City, he hit.241/.322/.410 with 13 home runs and 50 RBI.

Thompson said he isn’t bothered by the speculation that he could be moved again. Montas – who entered last season as the No. 91 prospect in baseball – followed a strong performance in the minors by posting a 4.80 ERA in 15 innings and striking out 20 for the White Sox.

That would require asking Frazier to move for the two years remaining on his contract, with left field the most likely scenario, which proved unfeasible for Los Angeles. 256 and totaling nine home runs and 39 RBIs.
