Kershaw is scheduled to face the Oakland Athletics at Dodger Stadium.
The A’s did just that in a 2-0 win over the National League West-leading Dodgers on Tuesday, Gray throwing a three-hit shutout to bring a four-game A’s losing streak to an end.
Gray (11-4) was masterful on the road again, recording his second shutout this month.
On Tuesday he allowed just two hits for eight innings and kept his pitch count under control at all times. “One shut us out, and the other one got three hits and a home run off me”.
“He’s really, really, good”, Anderson said of Gray. “The main goal is to win ballgames, with or without those guys”.
“I thought he would really be ready to roll tonight, but yesterday he wasn’t that great”, Mattingly said. “We’re going to go out there and we’re going to compete and we’re going to battle, and try to win as many games as we can”.
Chris Young started the 10-hit inning with a double and scored the first of his two runs when Chase Headley had the first of his two RBI singles in the frame. Anderson allowed four hits over his last six innings, and three of them came off Reddick’s bat including a one-out solo homer in the seventh that padded Gray’s lead, making it 2-0. He’s obviously gotten a lot better, is an All-Star, and a tremendous pitcher. The right fielder raced to the dugout hoping to catch some more history, maybe a stolen base or maybe just a celebratory dance at first base to acknowledge the hit.
Anderson (5-6) looked sharp against his former team after a full week off to rest a mild Achilles tendon injury, but his Dodgers provided little help. “I got the hit with Bulter’s bat, it was heavy”. He retired the first 11 batters before giving up a two-out double to Los Angeles first baseman Adrian Gonzalez in the fourth inning. Andre Ethier was caught stealing after drawing Gray’s only walk in the fifth, and Kendrick was stranded on second in the seventh after a leadoff single.
