Dodgers/Mets Game 3 Odds
The Dodgers and Mets are tied in the NL Division Series.
Monday, which brought a resounding 13-7 victory for the New York Mets over the Los Angeles Dodgers, was about Yoenis Cespedes’s three-run homer and accompanying bat flip – which may have been better.
Reynolds didn’t play but he did his share of the lifting, though.
Said Michael Cuddyer: “The greatest retaliation is winning the game”.
If he doesn’t, his detractors will write another page in their Big Book of Clayton Kershaw Playoff Failures. Hometown rookie Steven Matz goes for the Mets. I tend to think suspending Utley was a bad move by the league, who basically allowed this exact sort of slide for far too long to suddenly claim it’s illegal.
Amid much speculation the Mets would seek revenge, manager Terry Collins said before the game Harvey was told not to. “In the game of baseball, we do ask our pitchers to pitch inside once in a while, and the last thing we need is an umpire to take the games into his hands where he thinks it was on goal…. We’ll worry about this stuff at another date”. “That’s how we got back for him”.
In the end, Utley never got in the game and the Mets saved all their hard hits for when they were at the plate. He and his agent talked about innings limits and concerns about the long-term safety of his arm. Travis d’Arnaud added a two-run homer in the third, essentially driving Dodgers starter Brett Anderson from the game. Utley was not in Monday’s lineup, despite hitting.
“I appreciate the confidence Donnie has…in me to do it”, Kershaw said Monday, referring to Manager Don Mattingly.
Utley’s appeal of his suspension was not heard Monday, and he was eligible to play in Game 3.
As WCBS 880’s Peter Haskell reported, Utley was booed mightily as his name was announced before the game.
Chase Utley is not a dirty player.
“He can appeal all he wants-but he is guilty as sin”, Mr.de Blasio said today before marching in the Columbus Day Parade in Manhattan.
The Mets loved seeing Tejada, with his customized Mets crutch. With a walking boot and Mets cane, he hobbled out to the baseline as fans – a few carrying “WinForRuben” signs with his face on them – chanted the shortstop’s name.
Harvey took center stage in the electric atmosphere and set the Dodgers down quickly in the first.
In the middle of the first inning came an announcement that the line was fully operational.
The Mets pounded the Dodgers into the dirt in front of an electric Citi Field crowd to take a 2-1 series lead.
Clayton Kershaw will start Game 4 for the Dodgers against the Mets on three days’ rest.
Kershaw’s latest playoff loss came on the heels of an equally predictable regular season in which he went 16-7 with a 2.13 ERA, leading the major leagues in both innings pitched (232 2/3) and strikeouts (301). To sharpen up, he threw approximately 90 pitches during a simulated game Thursday in Florida and worked off the main mound at Citi Field on Sunday.
“The objective of this rule is to penalize the offensive team for deliberate, unwarranted, unsportsmanlike action by the runner in leaving the baseline for the obvious goal of crashing the pivot man on a double play, rather than trying to reach the base”, the 2015 Major League Baseball rulebook states.
