Dodgers vs. Mets: The subway war is on
The Mets’ best interest is to face these guys in Dodger Stadium as little as possible, even though Citi Field is a pitcher’s park as well. Would Major League Baseball have the Mets play one makeup game to see if they can clinch home field and another if they were to lose that first game?
Just minutes after the Dodgers sealed up the National League West and ensured an NLDS bout against New York, the Los Angeles Metro’s official account took a playful jab at New York’s MTA – complete with the #LOLMets hashtag that has been recently dormant given a lack of Mets blunders over recent months. But the Mets own the tiebreaker based on winning the season series against the Dodgers. In response, @MTA brought out the hammer by claiming the Mets will sweep the Dodgers in three games.
If that alone isn’t enough, all it takes it looking at the performances of the Dodgers two most important players, Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke, at home and on the road to determine that the Mets would much rather be at home.
With the Dodgers and Mets set to meet in the NLDS next week, the trash talk has already begun.
The Mets (89-70) saw their lead on home field dwindle to a half-game over the Dodgers, who were scheduled to play in San Francisco later in the day.
Andres Blanco blasted a homer leading off the eighth against Dario Alvarez for the Phillies’ final run. Cincinnati’s pitching staff has been doing poorly against opposing offenses during the last 10 games, allowing an average of 5.7 runs per game, well above its season average of 4.5. 178 with five home runs. Second baseman Howie Kendrick has been bothered by an injured hamstring. Utley has hit. 211 since arriving in L.A., and Rollins, capable as he remains with his glove, may end up on the bench behind hot-hitting rookie shortstop Corey Seager.
