Does David Bowie’s Son Have a Problem with Lady Gaga’s Tribute Performance?
Nile Rodgers has moved to defend Lady Gaga’s Grammy Awards tribute to David Bowie against fierce online criticism.
During the performance, Gaga sang Space Oddity, Changes, Ziggy Stardust, Suffragette City, Rebel, Rebel, Fashion, Fame and Let’s Dance before ending with Heroes which culminated in a standing ovation from the Los Angeles’ Staples Center crowd.
After Bowie’s son Duncan Jones responded to Gaga’s tribute to his father, Rodgers has now taken to Twitter to address the criticism.
“‘Overexcited or irrational, typically as a result of infatuation or excessive enthusiasm; mentally confused.’ Damn it!”
Jones tweeted out the textbook definiton of the word “Gaga”, which isn’t exactly complimentary.
However, not everyone was impressed with the 29-year-old pop superstar’s visually-stunning set, and Moon director Duncan appeared to be far from impressed, expressing his disapproval with a telling Twitter post following the Grammys telecast. Rodgers was on stage at the Grammys, playing those classic jangly riffs that he helped Bowie curate in the 80’s and 90’s, and he had no problem whatsoever with Gaga’s performance. Tell us how you REALLY feel, man!
And she continued to show her dedication to Bowie – who died last month after a secret battle with cancer – by still sporting her Ziggy Stardust-inspired shock orange hairdo to the bash.
“What I’m trying to say is there’s people that love David Bowie, and then there’s David Bowie fans, and there’s Bowie kids, who live like him…and I can’t express to you, I don’t know who I’d be if I didn’t have (him as) a figure in my life”.
In an interview with Mashable ahead of Monday’s performance, Gaga said she wanted it to show the “growth and evolution” of his music.
