Dog calls 911 during fire to save her owner’s life
Yolanda may look like an ordinary, lovable dog, but the Red Paw Emergency Relief Team said she is actually a superhero who saved her owner when a house fire broke out in their Philadelphia, PA home Thursday.
Red Paw reports it is a emergency response organization that provides emergency shelter, transportation and veterinarian care for dogs that are displaced by fires and other residential disasters.
Her owner is blind, and when Yolanda detected the fire in their Philadelphia home, she alerted authorities. Her owner, a blind woman in her 60s, is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Leary says you can see the pride on Yolanda’s face, sitting next to her owner and knowing she is safe.
NBC 10 reported the fire struck a home in the city’s Holmesburg section while the homeowner was inside.
Firefighters responded, and the homeowner was taken to the hospital where she was treated for smoke inhalation.
Service dogs such as Yolanda often help people with disabilities ranging from the physical to the mental and emotional.
