Dogs, cats rescued from La. flooding arrive in metro Atlanta
As the flood crisis continues, Louisiana’s shelters are becoming overcrowded with lost, abandoned and surrendered pets.
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay reported late Wednesday someone stole a puppy right out of their shelter and early Thursday morning, the puppy had been dropped off at the shelter safely. Well, thanks to several organizations like the Humane Society of the United States, the Atlanta Humane Society, and others, you can do both. They were transported from Louisiana shelters to make room for animals who were displaced during the floods.
– Animal shelters across the country are lending a hand to four-legged friends in Louisiana.
The humane society says it needs litter boxes, leashes, collars, towels, blankets and much more.
Ann Sanders, director of the local shelter and president of the society, said the dogs and cats that were brought to Saline County are available for adoption starting today. “When people bring a bag of dog food they also bring a 30-pound bag of cat food, which will go a lot farther than a 20-pound bag of dog food”, Ertl said. This is just the first transport that we’re taking in.
