It offers another glimpse into the life of country music icon Dolly Parton as she grows up poor in the Smoky Mountains with her family. “It’s hard to say, but I truly believe that it will be even better than the first one”. The humor factor has definitely gone up in the sequel in comparison to the first because there are just some super amusing scenes with those kids. I love her voice and have been a fan for a long time. This year I was shooting the Dolly Parton sequel, which is set at Christmastime but was shot in July, [and I] recorded my Christmas album this summer, too.

In addition to being the inspiration, Parton is an executive producer who’s helped shape the movie.

Today the stars of the movie, Jennifer Nettles and Rick Schroeder, talked with KARE 11 News at 11 about the making of the holiday special and what it was like to work with a legend like Dolly. It was indeed an inspirational story which suitable in this upcoming Christmas holiday season. “We all have to come from somewhere and whatever I am or have become is because of my faith in God and the people I come from”. The country star appears in Christmas of Many Colors as Avie Lee Parton, Parton’s mother, a role she also filled in 2015’s Coat of Many Colors; Parton herself will also make a cameo in the new made-for-TV movie.
