Dolphins’ home has a new name: Hard Rock Stadium
Hard Rock Stadium will play host to its first event on September 1, a Dolphins-Tennessee Titans preseason game, then play host to the University of Miami’s football opener against Florida A&M two days later.
The Miami Dolphins (and Miami Hurricanes) will play in “Hard Rock Stadium” this fall with Hard Rock International being awarded the naming rights, according to local sports radio host Andy Slater, who says the team will announce the news tomorrow. It will be the site of the 2020 Super Bowl.
On Tuesday it was revealed that Hard Rock will be the eighth name to be placed on the stadium since it opened in 1987.
The stadium had been temporarily titled New Miami Stadium.
The former Joe Robbie Stadium, Pro Player Park, Pro Player Stadium, Dolphins Stadium, Dolphin Stadium, Land Shark Stadium and, most recently, Sun Life Stadium has been looking for a new name since the Sun Life Financial rights expired earlier in 2016.
The facility was called Sun Life Stadium from 2010 until this past January. In typical Hard Rock Café fashion, their signature guitar logo will be fixed atop the stadium and Dolphin fans should quickly get used to seeing the famous guitar throughout the home stadium.
