Dolphins land Gase as National Football League head coach
The Miami Dolphins hired Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase on Thursday to fill the team’s head coaching vacancy. Naturally, he is now the Dolphins’ new head coach.
A team source told the Miami Herald that while a deal was not yet finalized, the two sides are making progress.
Adam Gase’s introductory news conference as Miami Dolphins coach wrapped up an hour before the National Football League playoffs began Saturday, and the goal going forward was clear.
Last year Gase interviewed for head coach jobs with Chicago, Denver, Buffalo, Atlanta and San Francisco…. Gase followed head coach John Fox to Chicago from Denver, where he served under Fox as wide receivers coach, quarterbacks coach, and most recently, offensive coordinator. Tannehill, who turns 28 in July, signed a six-year, $95 million contract in May.
The Dolphins interviewed former Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone and Miami interim coach Dan Campbell on Friday.
“He’s an extremely hard worker – a grinder”.
Gase didn’t play college football, but he worked his way up the coaching ranks, starting off as a graduate assistant for Nick Saban at LSU. As of right now Bears Qb coach Dowell Loggains is the favorite to replace Gase as the Bears offensive coordinator. In Cutler’s only season with Gase and Loggains, he posted a single-season career-best 92.3 passer rating. His work with quarterbacks is well documented and I know firsthand how good he is.
At 37, Gase is the youngest head coach in team history. Gase will be in control of the 53 man roster and will be calling the plays for (presumably) Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins offense. “Really at this point, not really to make any kind of predictions, I think we’re just going to have to see what his strengths are and really emphasize that”. And once he gets the Dolphins to the postseason, owner Stephen Ross expects them to win.
“I’m very happy for Adam”. Eli Manning has stated a preference for McAdoo to stay with the Giants in some capacity, either returning as coordinator or being elevated to head coach. He asks a lot of questions and writes everything down. “He is ready for this for sure”.
“Probably some of the drawback [last year] is that he had Peyton and people were like, ‘Hey a lot of people can do it with Peyton, ‘ ” Cutler said in a recent interview.
