Dolphins vs Jaguars, 23-20: Full highlights, final score and more
Rather than getting to Week 9 or 10 without a win, the Jaguars can go into Week 3 with a notch on the belt.
The winning drive was keyed by a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Dolphins defensive end Olivier Vernon that moved the ball to the Dolphins 19. Thomas was initially sought out in free-agency as a red-zone target for Bortles and his absence has been well felt by the offense.
The second choice has to be Ryan Tannehill who did everything he could to keep Miami in this one, passing for 359 yards and two touchdowns while leading the run game with 17 yards. The Dolphins played a preseason game here in 2013 and won at EverBank Field in a regular-season contest in 2014…. If the Jaguars can sustain a consistent running game, it will alleviate the pressure on Blake Bortles, who threw two picks last week.
They outgained Miami 168-52 in total yards. Jarvis Landry caught eight passes for 110 yards, and Rishard Matthews added six receptions for 115 yards. Now, the Jacksonville Jaguars can learn from that, as they will take on the Miami Dolhpins.
Bortles did not make major mistakes, took what the defense gave him and kept the Jaguars in the game to the end. There will be plenty of Dolphins fans in Jacksonville this weekend in a stadium whose turquoise seats look remarkably like the re-done Sun Life Stadium.
Allen Robinson, wide receiver.
Gus Bradley earned his biggest win as Jaguars head coach on Sunday.
Sam Bradford looked rusty in his first half of real football in a long time.
He suffered the hamstring injury late in the season-opening contest against the Washington Redskins. That is entirely understandable and he seemed to shake off some of that rust in the second half. Miami’s lone scoring drive nearly ended early when a Jaguars defender deflected a pass. He made only one solo tackle, and it was tarnished by an encounter after the whistle with running back Alfred Morris that had pundits abuzz about Suh’s reputation for dirty play. Miami finished with 386 yards. Rashad Greene also had a 24-yard punt return in the second half.
You could feel it when Albert came out of the game a little woozy in the third quarter at FedEx Field. Cyprien missed with a calf injury and was replaced by Josh Evans. They had been ruled out Friday. This marked the third straight year that Miami has played in Jacksonville. Still, when Albert is back at his best, it figures that the entire offensive line will be more cohesive and efficient.
